Foothills Leadership and Ministry

Foothills Unitarian Church leaders are a diverse mix of people with various specialties and backgrounds.   The church office is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  The general church email is uuinfo@foothillsuu.org.  The church office phone number is 493-5906.  An answering machine has pre-recorded information and allows you to leave voice mail messages for the Office Staff as well as private messages for the Minister, Adult Enrichment Coordinator, Children's Program Coordinator, and Youth Program Coordinator.

 

 




Rev. Marc Salkin, D. Min.
Parish Minister

Marc Salkin received his B.A. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and his Master of Theological Studies/Doctor of Ministry from Meadville/Lombard Theological School, which is affiliated with the University of Chicago.

Upon graduation from seminary, Marc was called as the spiritual leader of the Unitarian Association in Mexico City, where he served for two years. In 1975, Marc went to the San Diego UU Church, where he served with the Rev. John Clark this large and growing congregation.

In 1978, Marc was called to serve the historic church of Watertown, Massachusetts, which was founded in 1630. During his tenure in Watertown, Marc led the church in celebrating its 350th anniversary. Marc served the Watertown church for 13 years before his call to Fort Collins.

In 1991, Marc was called to serve the Foothills Unitarian Church. Marc’s leadership and gentle style of ministry is an integral component to the growth of the Foothills Church, and his warm and supportive nature, not to mention his great sense of humor, are hallmarks of his ministry with us.

Rev. Maureen “Mo” White
Assistant Minister

Rev. Maureen “Mo” White, is a longtime Boulder resident. She received both her B.A. in Contemplative Psychology and her M. Div. from Naropa University, Boulder. 

Rev. Mo has a wide-ranging background:  She was certified as a Mindfulness meditation instructor by Naropa and Shambhala International in 2004. She worked as a chaplain and grief counselor for HospiceCare of Boulder for two years, and in 2005, was accredited by the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy, having completed over 1600 hours of clinical pastoral education. Mo is in preliminary fellowship and was ordained by the UU Church of Boulder in Boulder, CO. During 2006-2008 she served as the interim minister to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Grand Valley, in Grand Junction, CO.

Mo is very much a “systems thinker,” and is part of the Mountain Desert District team that teaches the emotional systems based leadership workshop called “Healthy Congregations”.  She currently serves as chaplain to the MDD Russell Lockwood Leadership School and is on the nominating committee for the MDD Ministers Association.

As a Unitarian Universalist, “I think we have a saving message, and that message is:  “You are worthy, and you are loved.  There is no need for conflict between spirit and reason.”

Rev. Walter Royal Jones Jr., D. D.
Minister Emeritus

Roy served the Foothills Unitarian Church from 1972 until his retirement in 1989. At that time he was elected Minister Emeritus.

For half a century before his ministry at Foothills Unitarian Church, and continuing to date, Roy has been a strong voice in support of Unitarianism, Universalism and the Unitarian Universalist Association. For his support and guidance, and in acknowledgement of his significant contributions in support of U-U principles, Roy was presented with the UUA's Distinguished Service Award at the Association's 1995 General Assembly

Dr. Denise Elizabeth Hall
Intern Minister
Dr. Hall is a seminary student at Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. She is pursuing a master’s of divinity with an emphasis on justice and peace, and considers herself an evangelical, womanyst, empirical, Universalist.

Her first career is veterinary medicine where she is founder/director of the notfor-profit/profit Mother Earth Reverence Farms LLC and Wellness Veterinary Clinic in Greeley, Colorado. The community animal clinic is small and focused on wholistic practices such as acupuncture and nutrition.

The ministry of Mother Earth Reverence Farms LLC that is focused on sustainable agriculture and sustainable living for communities of color, and whose calling is ’Heal Our Land’. Currently, goats, pigs, llamas, cattle, and poultry production consume their energies. In 2008, they intend to incorporate aquaculture and lavender as a specialty crop.

As a community steward and project weaver, Denise is the adult advisor for DRUUMM YA-YA (Diverse Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries Youth & Young Adults of Color), Northern Plains Cluster Coordinator for the Unitarian Universalist Association’s Mountain Desert District - Justice Ministries, board member for Greeley Area Habitat for Humanity, member of General Assembly Planning Committee, and board member of the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom.

Eleanor VanDeusen
Children’s Program Coordinator

Our talented Children’s Program Coordinator is celebrating her 6th year as our Children’s Religious Education Coordinator, although she has been a friend and member of The Foothills Unitarian Church since 1983. 

Eleanor has extensive experience working with children and parents in the arts. She has a degree in Dance from The University of Colorado and was the director of the Dance Program at the Mountain Center for ten years.  In addition to her work at Foothills she continues to enjoy teaching dance classes for children. Eleanor has been very active in the Fort Collins Arts community, working as a dancer & choreographer with The Dance Connection Performance Network, OpenStage Theatre and Fort Collins Children’s Theatre. Her family includes husband, Lenny Scovel, daughters Samantha and Amelia, and son Will. Her parents, Robert and Sue VanDeusen, were founding members of the Unitarian Fellowship in her home town of Grand Junction, CO.

Vicki Siska
Adult Enrichment Coordinator

Vicki has been a Unitarian Universalist since finding the UU faith and the San Diego church in 1970. Her involvement in the San Diego church included serving as Chair of the Board of Trustees and President of the Church, and she still holds the distinction of being the youngest person to hold this position. Vicki also served on the UU board of the Pacific Southwest District, and was a founding member of the Leadership Development Committee.

Vicki moved to Watertown, Massachusetts in 1978, where she attended the University of Massachusetts. She graduated summa cum laude in 1981, with a degree in English and Sociology, and a Concentration in Religion. She also earned a certificate for teaching English and Social Studies at the secondary level.

Vicki was hired as Coordinator of the Adult Enrichment Program at Foothills UU church in 1999 and is excited by the interesting and informative nature of the program, and its potential for creating community while deepening our spiritual development.

Ryan Marvel
Music Director

Ryan Marvel joined our staff in January 2006. Previously, he was on staff for 7 years with Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Chandler, AZ as pianist and musical arranger. Ryan believes in the transformative power of music, respecting the ability for it to touch and be within us all. He feels that we are in the midst of an exciting musical journey in our UU faith and looks forward to the possibilities that lay ahead.

Ryan performs around the Front Range as a professional pianist. He also is an arranger, composer and conductor. Ryan teaches private lessons from his home, and co-directs a welcoming and member-driven community chorus. In his spare time, he loves to be outdoors hiking, biking, skiing and camping. Passions include music, wolves, nature and family. Indulgences? Coffee, chocolate and red wine.

Ryan’s true love is daughter Elena Rose, affectionately called “Lanie”.

Kimberly Sena
Children's Music Director

Kimberly Sena has a Master’s degree in Music therapy and is the Director of the music therapy program at the Namaqua Center in Loveland. She joined our staff as the Children’s Music Coordinator in the fall of 2005, and is excited to launch our new Children’s Music program!
